“I discovered Pilates by accident, really. I was slowly recovering from a serious low back injury – strained muscles, damaged ligaments, and slipped discs in the lumbar-sacrum area– a condition I developed during my years as a competitive cyclist. I was encouraged to integrate core strengthening and basic stretches into my athletic routine. Yet every activity I pursued – running, walking, swimming, yoga, stretching – caused back muscle spasms that would debilitate me for days. I had not made the connection between every-day unhealthy movement patterns and my back injury. The combination of internal body awareness and deep muscular conditioning inherent to the Pilates Method provided me with the key to unlock the passageway leading to healthy movement. Through dedicated daily practice, I am now able to enjoy long-distance trail running and cycle touring through the mountainous regions of the U.S. and parts of Asia. I credit these successes to the Pilates work. My breathing has improved immensely and my mechanics of movement are refined beyond my wildest expectations”.
